Shoe Obsession at the Fashion Institute of Technology NYC

Chaves

The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York is celebrating a “woman’s right to shoes” with their latest exhibition, Shoe Obsession, which opened February 8th and runs until April 13th 2013. The show is comprised of over 150 pairs of heels, exploring the imaginative, eccentric and unique designs that have shaped the evolution of footwear from simple accessory to wardrobe VIP. Tracing the evolution of the high-heel’s extravagance over the decades, the show examines how legendary designers like Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik paved the way for contemporary innovations in footwear. Labels like Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Charlotte Olympia, Giuseppe Zanotti and Pierre Hardy are surveyed and celebrated for their boundary-pushing contributions. Shoe Obsession is the second of the Museum at the FIT’s on-going exhibitions: the first, Fashion and Technology, which opened in December of 2012, focused on the relationship between textiles, clothing and the machines used to create them.
