It’s official, well known brunch restaurant L’Avenue just opens its second location in Saint-Henri neighborhood on Notre-Dame Street West at walking distance from Lachine Canal and Atwater market.

The new location preserves L’Avenue original signature with a decoration mixed of urban influences designed by Montrealer artist Alex Scaner and vintage furniture style (don’t miss to visit the bathrooms….).

To refresh the menu, Chef Alexandre Loiseau has concocted new dishes inspired by local ingredients which I have been invited to try in exclusivity a week ago. Both fancy and hefty, these new dishes confirm that brunch is a meal where creativity has no limit. And guess what? New vegetarian and gluten free items have been also added!

How To Revive Your Hair This Spring?

Live Clean Shampoo and Conditioner (price: 6,26$)

We all have a hair care routine and this routine should evolve as season changes to keep our hair healthy. I use Live Clean shampoo and conditioner for years because those vegan eco-friendly Canadian products made with certified organic botanical (more than 96%) and biodegradable ingredients deliver wonderful results. Live Clean hair care products do not contain: sulfate, petroleum, DEA, paraben, silicone, phthalate and phosphate. Based on my shopping experience, Live Clean brand is available at Walmart, Pharmaprix and Jean-Coutu.

To transition from Winter to Spring, I received in early March Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Pre-Wash Protein Treatment and Pai-Shau Supreme Revitalizing Mask. Easily integrated to my routine, I use them twice a week for better results.

Madam C.J. Walker Pre-Wash Protein Treatment (Price: 32$ US)

Sarah Breedlove, founder of Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company, is one of the twentieth century’s most successful self-made African American women entrepreneurs and her legacy inspired Sundial Brands to launch in 2016 a new brand named Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture that is sold exclusively at Sephora (online and stores).

The Pre-Wash Protein Treatment really helps fortify and protect against breakage. Suitable for all hair types, this treatment penetrates deeply to restore damages caused by chemical treatments, hair styling or environmental factors.

Made with certified organic and fair trade ingredients, this cruelty free product is easy to use. Before application, I spray my hair with warm water then I apply a generous amount of Pre-Wash Protein Treatment on hair and scalp by paying attention to mid lengths and ends (where breakage happens most of the time!). I put a shower cap to create natural heat then after 15-30 minutes I rinse with warm water and cleanse with Live Clean shampoo and conditioner.

Pai-Shau Supreme Revitalizing Mask (Price: 43$)

After cleansing, I apply a generous amount of Pai-Shau Supreme Revitalizing Mask on wet hair from mid lengths to ends, comb through and rinse well after 5-10 minutes. Suitable for all hair types, this mask hydrates and adds softness.

Pai-Shau products are made in Canada using Signature Tea Complex, a mix of African Red Bush (known as Rooibos), White, Black, Pu-erh and Japanese Matcha Green Teas. This mix provides rejuvenating properties that strengthen, nourish and protect the hair. Moreover, Pai-Shau products are eco-friendly, vegan, paraben free, gluten free, sulfate free, sodium chloride free and color safe. Sold only in professional environments, products are available at Pai-Shau website, fine beauty salons and professional distributors such as Capilex Beauté.

Happy Spring !!

No more dilemma when traveling! You don’t have to choose between putting your foundation in your checked baggage or leaving it at home because of its size. Now, you could bring this 0.31 oz foundation stick with you directly in your hand bag without any issues at the security check.

3) Moderate to high coverage

I have been testing this foundation stick for more than a month and I can assure you that depending of your desired finish look it delivers homogeneous coverage from moderate to high with a natural-looking matte finish (perfect for oily skins!).

4) Versatility

Thanks to its pigment-rich, this foundation stick is far beyond a basic foundation and can also be used as a concealer or for contouring. Here are LancĂ´me tips to guide you…

Apply Teint Idole Ultra Makeup Stick with a brush, makeup sponge, your fingers, or directly onto the skin, depending on your preferred method of application.
• When using a foundation brush, lightly feather the product, starting at the center of your face or where you see the most discoloration, and blend outward. Or, apply using fingers, blending with a cross-hatch pattern.
• As a concealer, apply where needed to spot treat and conceal imperfections. Using your finger or a brush, apply in a stippling motion for best results.
• To contour, pick a shade 2-3 shades darker than your base complexion, then apply and blend to sculpt and define your features.

5) Skin benefits

LancĂ´me Teint Idole Ultra Makeup Stick is fragrance-free, transfer-resistant, noncomedogenic and tested under dermatological conditions.

With the upcoming Spring season, La Société Montreal French Bistro located in Loews Hotel Vogue welcomes you with a new brunch menu elaborated by Parisian Chef Gilles Tolen who made his debut at well-known establishment Café de la Paix in 2009.

For those who are familiar with Montreal foodie scene, Chef Gilles Tolen created two menus at Decca77 as Executive Chef and was also involved in culinary events such as Le Chop, Cuisine du Quebec and MTLĂ Table.

The new brunch menu offers revisited classics such as Eggs Benedict, various types of Omelet, Mimosa cocktails and more. Moreover, the menu allows you to plunge into La Société spirit with fresh Oysters, Champagne, Tartars with croûtons and lunch plates.

I particularly appreciate the fact that the menu offers healthy and varied choices. Even as a vegetarian, you will easily find something that fit your need without having to ask for special treatment. With my sweet tooth, I chose the Belgian waffles (maple syrup comes in supplement), the Mount Royal granola bowl (proud Montrealer) and the Moulin Rouge cocktail ( Paris is always on my mind).

Centaur Theatre: You Will Remember Me

Centaur Theatre Company presents the Quebec English-language Premiere of You Will Remember Me until April 2nd. The play is the translation of Tu te souviendras de moi originally written by François Archambault in 2014.

Edouard, the main protagonist, is a highly respected history professor and political commentator who is suffering from Alzheimer disease. As ironic as it sounds, Edouard can recite famous historical dates but can’t remember recent events. Breathless, his wife Madeleine decides to abandon him to their daughter Isabelle for an undetermined time…

Edouard: “Well, don’t be gone too long … I might not remember who you are.

Isabelle (Johanna Nutter) and Edouard (Jean Marchand) – Photo Credit: AndrĂ©e Lanthier

Isabelle: ” I’m in the moment with you, Dad… My wonderful Dad who I love, even if, sorry, you drive me crazy most of the time.”

As the author explains “I didn’t want to make a play that only talks about Alzheimer’s; I wanted it to be wider than that. (…) I explore what we retain of our family history and the history of the society in which we operate; the things that we remember and those we prefer to forget.

Next shows: Matinées (1:00 pm & 2:00 pm) and Evenings (8:00 pm) until April 2nd.
